Welcome to "Fluent Philosophers", Toastmasters Club 4387
Toastmasters International is the largest organization for people who are learning and practicing public speaking. Toastmasters was founded in 1924 in Santa Ana, California, and there are now more than 8500 Toastmasters clubs worldwide.
The basic Toastmasters program is carried out in the individual clubs. Members learn speaking skills at their own pace. A guest can visit our meetings several times before joining.
Our club 4387 is named "Fluent Philosophers". Our group meetings are informal. At noon each Monday, one can bring lunch, and eat during the meeting, so that little time is taken from the workday. There is a cafeteria on site, so one can pick up a lunch there conveniently.
The people in our club, like you, are well rounded with varied interests. However, potential members often ask, "Who is in the club?" Since our society tends to identify people by their professions, we can describe our members as financial planners, industrial trainers, engineers, middle managers, and retirees.
We come in all sizes, shapes, colors, and genders as Toastmasters is open to everyone older than 18 years. As all of us are in transition from what we used to be to what we will be in the future, the Toastmasters program helps us to make a smooth transition by helping us learn to speak effectively. |
Our Meetings
We hold our meetings every Monday at noon at the Fluor Engineering Site in building 3 at 3 Polaris Way (formerly named One Fluor Daniel Drive) in Aliso Viejo, California. Although we always start the meeting at noon, if you arrive a little late don't be hesitant to join us. Also this is an open club, which means that everyone is welcome - there is no need to be a Fluor employee.
Just park in the back parking lot, and enter Building 3 to the Fluor Lobby by the glass doors. We meet in conference room C1-B050 next to the cafeteria. Since the Fluor lunch hour is 45 minutes, we work to complete our meeting at 12:45. |
The Toastmasters Program
The Toastmasters program is operated by individual clubs which follow the guidelines developed over more than 75 years by Toastmasters International. The members develop both speaking and leadership skills. Many commercial organizations recommend that employees join Toastmasters to learn these skills.
Although we would like you to consider our Toastmasters club, there are clubs that meet morning, noon, and night. One of these will be at the most convenient time and place for you. In fact, it is a good idea to visit a few clubs so that you can see which club seems best suited to you. It is easy to transfer from one club to another, as your needs change.
